CHAPLINS
2009 Prayer Chaplain Training
The Prayer Chaplain Team is a service
opportunity for those congregants who are ready to take the next step in the development
of their spiritual maturity and level of commitment in their spiritual growth. As such,
Prayer Chaplains make a one-year commitment in fulfilling their responsibilities.
These responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Serving at Sunday services monthly
(available for one-on-one prayer following services)
2 hours of wellness calling per
month
Hospital visits as needed
One Prayer Chaplain Meeting per
month
Annual mandatory intensive training
Unlike hospital chaplains, Prayer
Chaplains are not ordained and are not trained to counsel people. Prayer Chaplains are
trained to do three things only: hold spiritual space, listen, and pray. Prayer Chaplains
are not trained to go out and minister to the community-at-large but are
trained as a lay resource to help meet the pastoral care needs within our church
community.
If the Prayer Chaplain Program resonates with you and feels like an opportunity you would
like to explore further, please contact Pat Talley, Ruth Reid or Rev. Joseph Byrne for
more information.
Prospective new Prayer Chaplains must attend a mandatory orientation on Sunday October 19,
2008 at 1:30 p.m. The orientation will answer many questions and allow one to make an
informed spiritual decision regarding entering this service.
The mandatory training dates for the
2009 year are:
Friday Oct 24 6:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m.
Saturday Oct 25 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
Friday Nov 7 6:30 p.m. 9:30 p.m.
Saturday Nov 8 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
